Is a battery worth it?

How a home battery saves you money

Queensland feed-in tariffs are now much lower than the price you pay for grid electricity. Rather than exporting your excess solar for a few cents and buying it back at night at full price, a battery lets you store it and use it yourself in the evening.

How much you save depends on how much excess solar you produce, your evening usage, your electricity plan and the battery size. We model this from your bills before recommending a battery, so you can see whether it stacks up for your household.

Adding to existing solar

Already have solar? A battery can often be added

Many of our battery installations are added to existing solar systems. Depending on your current inverter, we either connect an AC-coupled battery alongside it or replace it with a hybrid inverter that manages both solar and battery.

We check your inverter, switchboard, meter and available wall space first, and confirm any impact on existing feed-in arrangements — particularly if you are on the grandfathered 44-cent Solar Bonus Scheme.

Batteries we install

We install battery systems from Tesla, Sigenergy and Sungrow. They differ in capacity, how they scale, backup capability and how they integrate with your solar and EV charger. We'll recommend the one that fits your usage, budget and backup needs — not just the one with the biggest number.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

How big should my home battery be?

It should be sized to your evening and overnight usage and how much excess solar you produce. Oversizing adds cost without extra savings if you rarely fill it. We size batteries from your bills and solar production data.

Can I get a rebate on a home battery in Queensland?

Yes — eligible batteries installed with solar receive a discount through the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program. The discount depends on usable capacity and the installation date, and we apply it directly to your quote. The Queensland Battery Booster rebate has closed.

Will a battery power my home during a blackout?

Only if the system is designed and configured for backup. Some systems back up selected essential circuits; others can back up the whole home. We'll explain the options for your switchboard and battery.

Does adding a battery affect my feed-in tariff?

It can, particularly if you're on the grandfathered 44-cent Solar Bonus Scheme. We check your current arrangements before recommending a design.
